It is often said that every piece of jewelry tells a story; the white pearls decorating Arleen Meyer's neck in the photo below were a wedding gift from her husband, Forrest, 75 years ago. Imagine the story they tell! Arleen, 95, and Forrest, 97, were married in 1943 after a year of courtship. Forrest shares a fun anecdote about his proposal to Arleen; He bought a ring for $50 and showed his mother who told him to take it back as it was not good enough! She gave him $50 and sent him back to buy a better ring. Arleen was a school-teacher and Forrest retired after 35 years General Electric. They have three daughters, and are blessed with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Despite being in their 90s, the couple is still cognitively intact. What are the keys to a long marriage? It's simple. "We don't argue; she is always right," Forrest said.
